Pizza…it’s honestly my favourite type of meal. You can throw anything on it and making your own pizza dough is actually really EASY to do (and the taste of the base is totally worth it!).
This recipe makes 2 pizza bases. If you only need one base, freeze the second base as a round ball for easy access for next time!
1½ cups (375ml) warm water
½ tsp of maple syrup
2 tsp dried yeast
4 cups wholemeal plain flour + extra for dusting
1 tsp salt
¼ cup oil + extra for brushing
In a small bowl combine water, syrup and yeast. Stir and set aside for 5 minutes. Mix flour and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the centre. Add yeast mixture and oil. Mix with a knife until a shaggy dough forms. Use your hands to bring dough together in the bowl. Turn onto a lightly floured bench and knead for 5 minutes. Place in a lightly oiled bowl and turn to coat. Cover bowl with a damp cloth and leave near a warm source for 3o minutes, or until doubled in size. Dust work surface with flour. Knead dough and half. Use a rolling pin to roll out each dough and transfer to pizza trays. Add toppings and bake at 200°C for 15 minutes.
